Experience Mr. Norton received his initial electronics training while serving six years in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he maintained and operated missile guidance radar systems. Upon expiration of his enlistment, he joined Varian Associates in Palo Alto, California. Initially he maintained the test systems used for the Klystrons, TWTs, and BWOs built by Varian Associates. Later he transferred to their vacuum division service department as the main electronic technician.
In January of 1978, Mr. Norton joined Hewlett Packard at their main service center in Mountain View, California. Here he was trained on Cesiums and worked solely on them for approximately two years. He switched repair groups to gain more varied experience, and worked in the signal generators group until his transfer to the Delcon Division to start and operate a Calibration Lab for them. In the fall of 1981, Mr. Norton and about 80 other key employees were transferred to Colorado Springs to relocate the division. He continued to operate the Calibration Lab for the new division until December 1987. He accepted the voluntary severance offered during Hewlett Packard's downsizing to work full time in a consumer electronics business he had started on a part-time basis four years previously. He operated this business until 1990.
In 1992 he joined Clyde N. Still Electronics Inc. as a Cesium and electronics repair technician. He worked there until after Mr. Still's untimely death in 1996. In 1997 Mr. Norton purchased the Cesium portion of the business from Mrs. Still and started his own company under the temporary name, A + Electronics. Mr. Norton has continued to expand the business to include most all types of frequency standards. Hence our new name, Frequency Standards and Services. Mr. Norton has worked closely over the past few years with the frequency and timing group at NIST Boulder and other companies in the U. S. to maintain their standards. Mr. Norton was trained by Hewlett Packard on the repair of the 5061s and recently attended specialized training at the Hewlett Packard factory for repair and rebuilding of the 5061 A4 harmonic generator module. According to Hewlett Packard, Mr. Nortons' is the only company in the U.S. with the training and ability to repair the A4 module. The only other in the world is the Hewlett Packard Service Center in France. |
